Crochet Baby Shoes

List of Materials:

• 2mm crochet hook,
• Lightweight acrylic yarn in two colors (I used white and yellow for this tutorial)
• A bit of black thread for the final details.
• Sewing needle,
• Scissors

Finish size

All the images here were taken following the pattern for 0-3 months or 9,5cm shoes. The average foot size, depending on age:

• 0-3 months: 9,5cm / 3.7 inches
• 4-8 months: 11cm / 4.3 inches
• 9-12 months: 12cm / 4.7 inches

Especial Directions

The pattern is written in black for 0-3 months size, followed by blue for 4-8 months size, and red for 9-12 months size. For the size you decide to crochet, follow the instructions for the color matching the size.

Baby Shoes Pattern Instructions

Sole

With white yarn chain 14. Skip the first chain and start,

 1 row  7sc, 5dc, 8dc(in same st turning the foundation chain clockwise), 5dc, 6sc, 4sc(in same stitch) Total 34sts

2 row  chain 2, 12dc, 8incDC (make 2dc in each of the 8 stitches), 12dc, 2incDC (make 2dc in each of the 2 sts), join with sl Total 44sts

3 row  chain 2, 12dc, (1dc, 1incDc) repeat 8 times, 12dc, (1incDc) repeat 4 times, join with sl Total 56sts

Add row  chain 2, 5dc, 7sc, (2sc, 1incSc) repeat 8 times, 7sc, 5dc(1sc, 1incDc) repeat 4 times, join w sl Total 68sts

Add row  chain 2, 20sc, (1sc, 1incSc) repeat 8 times, 20sc, (1dc, 1incDc) repeat 6 times, join with sl Total 80sts

• Cut the yarn and fasten off the invisible way.

Toe cup and tongue

With white yarn start,

1 row  4sc in a magic ring, chain one and turn

2 row  1sc, (1inc) repeat 3 times, chain one and turn Total 7sts

3 row  1sc, (1sc, 1inc) repeat 3 times, chain one and turn Total 10sts

4 row  1sc, (2sc, 1inc) repeat 3 times, chain one and turn Total 13sts

5 row  1sc, (3sc, 1inc) repeat 3 times, chain one and turn Total 16sts

Add row  (3sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times, chain one and turn Total 20st

Add row  (4sc, 1inc) repeat 4 times, chain one and turn Total 24sts

• Change to yellow (or the color of your preference)

6 row  10sc (across the base of the toe cup), chain 1 and turn or 12sc, or 14sc

7-20 row  10sc, chain 1 and turn or 12sc, or 14sc

21 row  1dec, 6sc (or 8sc, or 10sc), 1dec, chain 1 and turn

22 row  1dec, 4sc (or 6sc, or 8sc), 1dec,chain 1 and turn

Add 1 row if following the blue

Add 2 rows if following the red

• Cut the yarn and fasten off.
• Make another one.
• Find the 16 stitches in the front part (or the 20 middle stitches, or the 24sts) of the shoes, and sew the toe cup.

Shoe sides

Attach the yellow yarn in the first stitch near the tongue. After every row, you are going to turn the shoe and chain one before start the row.

2 row  40sc *respectively with the numbers above

• Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Shoe sides – final

Attach the yellow yarn in the first stitch

1 row  (1sc, chain 3) repeat 4 times (or all the way to the end), 16sc or 24sc, or 32sc , (1sc, chain 3) repeat 4 times, 1sc, chain one, turn

2 row  (3sc skip one chain) repeat 4 times going up, 16sc around the shoes or 24sc, or 32sc , (3sc skip one chain) repeat 4 times going down

• Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Final touches

1. With black thread and a sewing needle, embroider chain stitches around the shoes. The line between the color and the white is a complete round circle, embroider on the front loop remaining that divides the colors. The line on the white part is embroidered in the middle of the first and second row of the shoes, with four stitches behind the starting of the tip toe.
2. With white, make 9sc in a magic ring, followed by 9 inc hdc, for a total of 18sts. Cut the yarn, fasten off and make another one.
3. With black thread, embroider a star in the center of the circle you previously made. Here, you can embroider any element you may like. Or simply leave it blank. It’s up to you!
4. Sew the circle two rows above the sole and 2 rows below the ending.
5. Insert the shoelace!
