That’s right, the inspiration for this pattern came from my not-so-cozy new home. These days, I feel like an onion, bundled up in layer after layer of warm clothes—and cuddling this adorable little penguin makes it all a bit better!

CROCHET WINTER PENGUIN FREE PATTERN MATERIALS:
- 8mm and 2mm crochet hooks,
- Chenille yarn of your preference,
- For this Penguin, I used the brand Alize Velluto’s colors: black, white, green, and red.
- Similar yarn weight and texture suggestions can be Universal Yarn and Creative World crafts.
- Orange sports weight for the beak and feet.
- Sewing needle,
- Stuffing material hypoallergenic polyester,
- Scissors

HEAD
With an 8mm hook and black yarn start,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd 6inc Total 12sts
3 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

5 rnd (3sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 30sts

BELLY
Locate the 11 stitches in the center front of the penguin on round 26 and attach the white yarn to the first of these stitches.
Begin crocheting in rows within the 11 stitches you marked on round 26.
At the end of each row, chain 1 and turn your work.

EYES
With a white start,

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
• Make another one following the same instructions. Don’t cut the yarn of the second eye instead, start working in rows.
3 row 3sc (leave the remaining 9sts unworked), chain 1, join the other eye and make 3sc. Total 7sts (the chain in the middle count as 1st) Chain 1, turn
4 row 1dec, 1sc, 1sc In the chain, 1sc, 1dec Total 5sts
• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Leave a small tail for sewing.
• Sew the eyes starting in round 14 and going up to round 8. See the images below for reference.



HAT
With an 8mm hook and green yarn start,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring

3 rnd (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times Total 18sts

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off. Add a pompom on top of the hat. I made a pompom with the same red yarn I used on the edge of the hat.

With orange yarn and a 2mm hook start,

Left-wing
Place the penguin’s head towards you. Introduce the black yarn between rounds 20 and 21 of the body in the first black stitch beside the white belly. Chain 2 and start

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.



BEAK
With orange yarn and a 2mm hook start,
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd 6sc

• Cut the yarn and fasten it off.
• Leave a small tail for sewing.

FINAL DETAILS
- Sew the beak between the eyes.
- Embroider the closed eyes between rounds 2 and 3 of the white eyes detail.
- Sew the feet to the bottom of the penguin.
- Dress the penguin with the hat and scarf. Sewing them on is optional, as they should stay in place on their own
