- I used DK acrylic yarn for this pattern but you can feel free to crochet with sports weight cotton as well.

Finish size:
This Pirate Jack Skeleton is crocheted using dk acrylic yarn and a 2 mm hook. 5.5 inches (14cm) high.
Gauge
You don’t need to worry too much about the gauge for this pattern. Just choose a hook that works well with your yarn. I always like to use a slightly smaller hook than the yarn label suggests—this helps keep the stitches nice and tight, so the stuffing doesn’t poke through. If your stitches look a bit loose, try going down a hook size.
But if you’d like to check the gauge I got with my yarn, here it is:
Using dk acrylic yarn and a 2 mm hook, 5 rounds (ending with 30 stitches) measure about 1.7″ (5 cm) across.

Pirate Jack Skeleton Pattern Instructions
For this pattern, we will work on the toy starting from the legs and finishing at the head. Let’s begin!
Legs
With brown yarn
1 rnd 6sc in magic ring
2 rnd 6bpsc
3-6 rnd 6sc
7 rnd 6inc Total 12sts
- Cut the yarn, fasten off. Stuff the wooden leg.
- For the second leg, with black yarn start:
1 rnd 6sc in a magic ring
2 rnd 6inc Total 12sts

4-7 rnd 12sc
- Don’t cut the yarn off the leg. Chain2.
- Insert the loop of the needle inside one of the finished stitches of the wooden leg and continue working
- For round 8, you should make 1SC in each of the chains, 12SC around the leg, again 1SC in the other side of each chain, 12SC. Having a total of 28 stitches.
Body
Continue with black yarn,

- Cut the yarn, fasten off, and make another one. Leave a tail for sewing.
- Cut a piece of white yarn and embroider a surface chain stitch. Make 3 chain stitches down the arm and 2 chain stitches on the edges.
- Fill half of the arms with stuffing material.
Eye
Start with black yarn

- Join with an SL, cut the yarn, and fasten off.
- Leave a tail for sewing.
Eye patch
With black yarn, chain 6, skip the first chain and start,

- Make 16 sl around the eye patch detail. Cut the yarn and fasten off.
- Add a piece of black yarn in one stitch of each side of the eye patch to tie a knot around the head later.
Pirate Hat
Start with brown color yarn start,

- Change to yellow, turn the work in the opposite direction, and make SL in all stitches. When you turn the work, the sl will be facing the wrong side. That is what we want. We will flip the edges of the hat later, and the SL will be outside.
- The three repetitions of double crochet on the last round will mark the three tabs of the hat.
- Find round 10 of the hat and flip the borders. It is not necessary to sew the tabs, but you can sew it if you wish.
Assembly
- With white yarn, embroider surface slip stitches along the vertical center of the body to create one straight line. Then, add three diagonal lines on each side of the central chest line to form the ribs. Finish by adding the hip bone with 2 short stripes.
- With white yarn, make the bone detail on the skeleton’s left leg: embroider 4 chain stitches in the middle part and 2 chain stitches on each edge.
- Sew the eye between rounds 27 and 31.
- Attach the eye patch beside the eye, either by tying it or sewing it in place.
- Sew the arms onto round 18 of the body.
- Mouth: With black thread, embroider a long line between rounds 23 and 24, 14 stitches in length. Add 7 vertical lines across it, leaving 2 stitches of space between each.
- Nose: In the center of the head, embroider two vertical lines (2 rows in length), starting from round 25.
- Place the hat on his head!
